Apple Themed Ideas

Writer's picture: Sam BrownSam Brown

First things first, let's just say, apple themed activities are my favvvvvvvorite! It's the first real sign of fall, and I'm just here for it. The older I've gotten the more I've learned that fall is my absolute favorite season of all.

If you're like me, you're a combination between, I can do this myself, and HEY! Just give me an easy printable and we are good to go. Lol! There's a middle ground in their somewhere, but I know all of you Mama's know what I'm talking about when I say, I just like to have something up my sleeve to keep the little people busy, happy, and occupied. So, with that being said, let's start with my favorite apple resources and then the remainder of the post will be easy ideas you can recreate with supplies you have on hand.

Okay, if you're looking for more easy at home/classroom ideas that you can just whip up, have up your sleeve or draw on the fly check out the ideas listed below! These are tried and true ideas that I've shared over on Instagram that my kids have LOVED and we have played many years or more than once.

Idea #1 Apple Spiced Playdough Tray

Seriously, if you only try on thing from this post you HAVE to try making this play dough. It is THE BEST and I make it all year, LOL!

Then grab a serving tray from Dollar Tree, add some little loose parts and let the kids get to work. Pictured: Melissa and Doug Play Dough Tools, Red, Yellow and Green Pouch Tops and Apple Mini Erasers

Idea #2 Apple Pie Sensory Bin

Buy a few of those 50 cent mini pies from WalMart bakery section (save them!) Next, I usually add oats into a bin, with a couple dashes of cinnamon or apple pie spice for that delicious smell. For the "apples" I add red and green pom poms and apple mini erasers. But, you can't make pie without crusts, so I added a few strips of tan felt into the bin so that they could make some pretend apple pies.

Idea #3 Apple Tree Color Sort

Save up those baby food or APPLESAUCE pouches for this one! Draw out some trees on butcher paper! No butcher paper? Just use 3 different sheets of paper and draw one tree on each sheet with a bushel of apples of each color beside each tree so your child knows which apples grow on which tree. Have them sort by color. Add tongs for added fine motor practicer and fun!

Idea #4 Froot Loop Tree Snack

Take a simple sheet of paper and draw out three apple trees. Give your child a bowl of Froot Loops and let them sort and glue the red, yellow and green ones onto the trees.....but no worries, let them snack on the rest!

Idea #5 Apple UNO

Here’s a fun apple themed math game that’s fun for all ages! Grab all of your yellow, green and red pom poms and add into a basket or to the middle of the table.

To prep ahead: Take your standard @uno cards and pull out the yellow, green and red cards that equal the sum of your Pom Poms. ✨Include the skip cards for added fun✨

🍎 HOW TO PLAY 🍎

Draw a card. Grab that many “apples” from the basket of that same color. Rotate clockwise At the end, once all of the apples have been picked, each person counts back their apples into the basket to see who has the most. The person with the most apples wins!

Idea # 6 Paper Plate Apple Craft

Grab some paper plates, the kind you would hate to actually eat actual food on, LOL. The flimsy kind! Grab some dot markers or dot stickers and let your little ones decorate the apple. Draw a steam and leaf onto white paper for them to "dot" as well. Afterwards, cut out the stem and leaf and glue onto the plate.

Idea #7 Mosaic Cut and Paste Apple Craft

Draw an apple shape onto blank white paper. Let your little practice cutting, by cutting strips of (green, red, or yellow) paper into squares. After cutting, let them take the squares and glue into a mosaic Cut and Paste Apple Craft

Idea #8 Apple Pouch Top Graphing

This one was suggested straight from the Preschool Playbook from Sandbox Academy and it went really well. My PreK3 and Kinder babe loved sorting these and then coloring them in. Afterwards we used it to introduce early graphing knowledge. Such as one-to-one counting, identifying groups, quantities, more, less, the same? This one is a just a easy way to sneak math in and to draw up on the fly.

Idea #9 1 Apple, 3 Ways, 3 Levels

Top Apple was for my toddler (20 months): Objective was to color red, practice saying "red", building fine motor skills with the red dot stickers

Middle Apple was for my PreK3: Sort Letters of his name to the right letter.

Bottom Apple was for my early Kinder: Identifying and sorting numbers 10-20

Idea #10 Make Crock Pot Applesauce

Nothing says apple theme to me like making some good old crockpot applesauce! This is and has been my favorite apple activity FOR YEARS! I loved doing this in the classroom when I taught first grade, and even more so now that I have my little applesauce lovers at home with me.
