Psalm 127:3 KJV "Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward."
The other day we were out at the park, and a kind older lady was also there with what seemed to be her grandchildren. She saw me taking some photos of my little ones and said, "Ma'am you have 3 beautiful blessings right there! Cherish them and these moments, they go by so quickly!"
The longer I am a mother, the more I treasure the time spent with my little ones. It's true what they say, 'the days are long and the years are short.' Sometimes when we as parents are in the midst of parenting there are many challenges to overcome. Unfortunately, because of those challenges, there has become this culture out there that says that children are an inconvenience, and somehow have become the blunt end of every joke, but friend, that's not how God designed a mother to view her children.
Are children sometimes challenging? Sure. Do children sometimes make it difficult to accomplish simple tasks? Sure. But, while there may be some challenges, time delays, training, or disciplining that need to occur, which in return can prolong a task, children are still a REWARD, and a JOY given from the LORD.
Psalm 127:4-5 KJV "As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate."
As a matter of fact, the Lord says in the above verse that the more you have, the happier a man. When we stop viewing our children as inconveniences and start viewing them as the little blessings that they are, we will be able to find the JOY in parenting them.
So instead of dreading every diaper change, every load of laundry (with all of its tiny tiny pieces), and all of the mundane tasks in between, we can count it those tasks as a REWARD from the LORD that He has entrusted and loaned them to us.
The Bible states that "children are an heritage OF the LORD;..." not FROM the Lord. This grammatical statement matters, because He hasn't given us our children for us to keep. He has given them to us on LOAN. He has loaned them into our care for us to enjoy as a reward, and they still belong to Him. Knowing that, I know that the Lord expects me to accept these wonderful blessings and to "Train up a child in the way he should go:..."(Prov. 22:6 KJV) and to "...bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord." (Eph. 6:4 KJV)
Sometimes it's so easy to forget that our children are the most important work that we will ever do. As wives and mothers, we have husbands to serve, children to care for, houses to maintain, and ministries to serve in. After being a wife, Mama's let's not forget the most important souls that we will ever invest in are the ones that the Lord entrusted into our wombs!
